Visit to GCHC

We travelled about 30 min. by bus just west of Moshi to visit the world-class Gabriella Children’s Rehabilitation Centre and it’s internationally recognized director Brenda Shuma and co-founder Anthony Ephraim. Ms Shuma is an occupational therapist and the school specializes in educating students with autism, their parents and the communities they come from. The school has residential and day programs for the students in addition to programming for the parents and community outreach programs. This is the only such facility if its’ kind in Tanzania and does not receive any funding from the government. Admission is based on need. Our students were extremely impressed by these two individuals and the research-based programming for their students on this 5 acre facility (some of it still under construction—the school moved just 2 years ago to this new facility) with plans for a 10 acre expansion. At the end of the tour and discussions that happened both along the way and at the end, we made a donation to the school.
